Deaf student excels at Point University

Teammates say Dakota Overton has helped improve communication on her Point University lacrosse team. Some might find that surprising, since Dakota is deaf.

“When we are on the field, we use more signals,” goalie Abbey Smith told Point Magazine. Players hold their hands high to sign plays to one another, said teammate Ta’Mara Moore.

Dakota, a junior, is an exercise science major at Point (West Point, GA). You can read the article “Once Upon a Sign” in the Summer 2017 issue of Point Magazine.
