Tornado destroys Virginia churchposted 4/5/2017 5:43:02 PM
Last week, an EF-2 tornado with wind speeds up to 120 mph destroyed Real Life Christian Church’s building in Chesapeake, VA.
According to The Virginian-Pilot, the church’s main building was constructed in 2009 and just last fall they completed work on a second story addition with space for students and children.
“It’s been heartbreaking and motivating,” said Brett Coates, executive director at Real Life, in the Pilot. “Heartbreaking because a lot of things we held dear are gone, but motivating because to me the people are the church and not the building. This gives us an opportunity to serve those impacted by the same thing. It’s one thing to lose a church, but I could not imagine losing a home.”
In keeping with this mission, on Monday members of Real Life handed out $5,000 in gift cards to individuals and families who had lost property in Virginia Beach.
